Shucks. You all are sure helpful. A name for the unborn is on the horizon. On Sunday night before the food poisoning set in, before the morning spent in L&D getting my veins poked and blown, before confirming that the baby and I would both survive, Joe devised a name game to settle this headache.
We each got 100 voting points and a ballot with the top five names. Ajax was not mentioned and for that I thank you. The rules were that each name had to get at least ten points and no one name could get more than fifty. And off we ran to our corners.
Some old contenders resurfaced for the final showdown. And Luke was no longer of interest to Joe. Just wasn't, end of story. I now reveal the results to you.
Abe 40
Henry 50
Jack 35
Charles 55
Isaac 20
Doesn't that make Charles look like the winner? Alas, he is not. It's Henry because Charles is only good to us as Charlie and never as Charles, Chuck or Chaz. Whereas Henry is palatable to us in all forms. And it's older and dignified and less bland than Charles in our minds.
Ta-da, a name has been born. From second place we bring you Henry our Second.
As for those of you who mentioned Ben and Sam, both names I dig, they are out of contention due to living family members with the same names. It's a small family and we can't go stealing each others names while said members are still in good health.
And remember to ALWAYS take with you droppings.

henry is gaining in popularity in the U.S. as well.
i second the veto of "charles" -- charles is too formal, charlie too young, chaz only fits a few people, chuck is too pukey, etc.

Love the name, too. A boy name was easy for us... girl names not so much. We ended up using one suggested from a family member.
Hope you're feeling better! How frightening!

Wait a minute! Did you know that Hortense was pretty popular as a name until about 1940, when it dropped off the radar? How about Hortense? Start a movement.
Atta girl.
(No? How about Benjamin? See, it's not the same as Ben.)
OK. Go to http://babynamewizard.com/namevoyager/lnv0105.html. Fuss around there for awhile.

As I mentioned beforre, I adore the name Henry.
Woo-hoo!
We call our dog Charlie, Cha-chi...or at least we used to when we were new dog-owners. Now we call her Charlie or Char. Creative, huh?
